Fred's In-SpaceFebruary 03 Sam's Retirement PartyI recently returned from a week-long trip to Florida. Mara’s brother-in-law Sam retired from the Sheriff’s department and had a terrific retirement party. We ‘Jet-Blued’ our way to ‘West Palm Beach Airport’ then dropped anchor in Delray Beach.
The parties were a blast. Sam had guests from lots of distant cities; San Diego, Chicago, and Tonawanda - to name a few. (Tonawanda is not a typo. I lived in that city while I attended SUNY at Buffalo.)
I had three great workouts - in the pool - at the ‘International Swimming Hall of Fame’ in beautiful Fort Lauderdale. The weather wasn’t terrific. As a matter of fact, during my third visit to the facility I shared a lane with the rain. They evacuate the pool when lightning strikes. I guess that is why outdoor swimmers are so fast!
Just for the heck of it, I compared my times to the list of MASTERS SWIMMERS. I fall into the 75-to-80 year old range. Fortunately, I noticed those postings as I was leaving the pool after my third swim.
Les Baker lives ten minutes away from there. We had lunch one day and dinner on another. He sends his regards to everyone up North.
On the flight back to Kennedy I had the peanuts instead of the ‘Blue Potato Chips’. November 25 Thanksgiving Thanksgiving 2007 this year was something of a suprise. instead of celebrating on Thursday we did so on Friday - a Thanksgiving Shabbat diner. We all trucked up to Uncel Rob's house; myself, Mara and PJ; Jeff and Shana; Nina; and Leah and Josh.
May 18 Andy is home for the SummerAndy has returned from Austin. The high winds at Kennedy had his Jet Blue flight circling over Cleveland until they were low on fuel. At that point they headed for the safety of, you guessed it, Rochester. If you check the flight status on the Jet Blue page, it displays scheduled and actual. I think they should add another field; where the plane 'actually' landed! (Yeah, they got us on that one because Mara and I drove over to JFK.)
But Jet Blue sprong for Pizza. They had the passengers de-board the plane to stretch their legs. Then they called a local Pizza place and soon the boxes arrived. Andrew said each passenger lined up for their slice, buffet style. Oh, the napkins had the Jet Blue logo.
Many on board were not 'New Yurkers'. (Why should they be?!) When they asked what State they were in the flight attendants insisted they were in Rochester. The last time I checked my flag had 50 stars.
With the plane refueled the 30 minute trip to Kennedy resumed. Four and one half hours later they arrived at JFK. Thanks for flying Jet Blue, we hope you enjoy your stay in New York. Andy emerged from the mist with his essentials; one electric, one accoustic guitar, a backpack and computer.
